Custom Medical Devices has the
longest follow-up for its set of occluding devices; the first "buttoned device" was
actually implanted in 1988. They have been modified and improved
over the years and offer a less expensive alternative to surgery.
They have been used extensively in the treatment of atrial septal
defect, patent ductus arteriosus, ventricular septal defect and
patent foramen ovale. In relation to other devices the
ButtonSeal is still using the durable and less toxic
stainless steel. Stainless steel contains only 8% *Nickel in
comparison to 55% of other devices.
The Transcatheter Patch is the only frameless bioabsorbable device and has more applications than metal devices. It can be released fast in all cases. |
